Criipto: Certified FTN broker

Criipto has officially been approved as a broker in the Finnish Trust Network (FTN).

The approval comes at a pivotal moment for FTN, coinciding with the rollout of new security requirements by the Finnish regulator, Traficom. FTN logins will now be safer and more privacy-preserving thanks to the additional layers of encryption and digital signing built into the authentication process.

As the first FTN broker certified under this stricter framework, we provide companies in Finland with a clear and simple path to compliance.

What is an FTN broker and why do you need one?

FTN is managed by Traficom, which enforces strict technical and legal standards for all participants.

Direct access to FTN isn’t possible for businesses. Instead, they must go through an approved broker.

A broker makes the connection to FTN possible while ensuring all requirements are met. With a certified FTN broker, you can plug into FTN without having to manage complex compliance work on your own.

But choosing a broker is not just a matter of staying compliant. The right partner helps you shorten development cycles, get to market faster, and ensure service reliability and enhance your security posture.

What are the benefits of using Criipto as a broker?

Working with Criipto gives you full access to FTN while meeting every security requirement set by Traficom. Our goal is to ensure your integration is up-to-date and perfectly aligned with the country’s latest digital identity standards.

1. Compliance built in

The FTN's enhanced security is based on four main technical requirements:

  1. Client authentication using Private Key JWT
  2. Signed authentication requests
  3. Encryption of token and userinfo responses
  4. A few additional requirements (e.g., statically configured JWKS for signing and encryption)

The new rules improve data protection (which translates into better privacy and GDPR compliance) and make it much harder for attackers to interfere with the login process.

While implementing these requirements takes some development effort, it’s an investment in the long-term security of your service. These standards represent the best practices in modern authentication and are setting a new benchmark that other eID systems are likely to follow.

To help you ensure your integration is compliant, we’ve added the FTN Compliance Checker to the Criipto Dashboard. It shows you where your integration stands, with each requirement broken down into steps. This way, your team knows exactly what needs to be done.

2. Fast and simple integration

We've seen experienced teams get Criipto Verify integrated in just a few hours. Developers don’t need deep FTN security expertise or protocol knowledge. We use the standard OpenID Connect and OAuth2 frameworks, so most of the complexity is handled behind the scenes. You can test your setup for as long as you like, at no cost, before moving to production.

3. Scale across markets

If your business also operates in other markets like Sweden, Denmark, or Norway, you can expand without rebuilding integrations. After the first integration, you simply enable the additional eIDs via the dashboard.

The Finnish Trust Network (FTN) is Finland’s nationwide digital identity system. It brings together Bank IDs issued by Finnish banks as well as Mobiilivarmenne (Mobile ID).

Since its launch in 2019, FTN has become a standard part of the digital landscape. Today, thousands of services across the public and private sectors rely on it for secure user verification and signatures.
